Handmade in Bavaria
The Magnus bag marries function and style, paying homage to my German heritage… and the marvelous and beloved dog of Munich, the dachshund.
Each bag is a unique piece and expertly hand-crafted and sewn in a small Bavarian atelier from luxurious, buttery soft, regional deer leather and inspired by traditional German folk attire: lederhosen and dirndls. It is finished with traditional horn buttons, always a fixture on lederhosen.
Every Magnus bag is the result of hours and hours of expert, loving and careful attention to details.

About the Münchner Dirndl lining
The bag lining of the Magnus Munich Line features the gorgeous, proprietary cotton fabric of Münchner Dirndl, a luxury boutique owned by my dear friend, Carolin Engelhardt. Her boutique showcases hand-sewn dirndl dresses and lederhosen. With a Munich illustrator, Carolin designed this hand-painted Münchner Dirndl print, which details traditional Munich landmarks such as the Frauenkirche, the Chinese Tower, the Viktualienmarkt … and, alas, of course, the beloved Bavarian dachshund.
Soft, Sturdy & Luxurious
Deer leather is gloriously soft, lightweight and durable and has been historically used in the production of premium Lederhosen, “leather trousers”.
Lederhosen originally served as practical, durable, weather resistant workwear for hunters and laborers in the Bavarian and Alpine regions.
The lederhosen trend was adopted by the upper class and grew throughout the late 18th and 19th centuries. While common workers favored more affordable cowhide and goatskin, deerskin became the leather of choice for high quality, durable, long-lasting Lederhosen. They have become a symbol of Bavarian tradition and regional identity.
Premium quality deer leather lederhosen age beautifully (my father’s 80-year-old and son’s 20-year-old childhood pairs included!), developing a wonderful patina over time; the leather can darken over time and takes on a richer color. Lederhosen are a cherished heirloom passed down through generations. It goes without saying that each Magnus bag will age magnificently, just like a pair of premium Lederhosen, and is a lifetime piece.
The Magnus Bag is a Forever Bag
